Moira Shire has started installing a new all abilities playground at the Yarrawonga foreshore with $200,000 set aside for this project in the 2015/16 capital budget.
Councillor Wendy Buck said the all abilities playground would allow children of all ages and abilities to have fun and play with their friends in a safe environment.
Cr Buck said the works would revitalise the current, ageing playground and “introduce exciting new, play equipment”.
The first stage of the project would improve access to the playground and create all abilities parking along Bank Street which required temporary safety fencing to be erected around the works area.
“Once these works are complete we will then move on to upgrading the playground and its equipment,” Cr Buck said.
“We anticipate these works will commence after Easter.”
There will be no change to access to the foreshore during the project.
Once completed the park will include two all abilities parking bays, a parking bay for a larger vehicle such as a 20 seater bus, concrete pathways between the parking bays, a playground and existing all abilities toilet facilities.
At the request of Cr Buck, Moira Shire officers presented a report to council at the June 2016 ordinary meeting detailing the progress of an all abilities playground for Yarrawonga that was listed in the 2015-16 budget.
“These funds were intended to be a contribution toward a larger project in Yarrawonga but this project has since been relocated to Mulwala,” the report said.
“An opportunity to provide all abilities playground facilities has been identified through the renewal of the existing playground on the Yarrawonga foreshore near the Bank Street boat ramp.”
