Award winning apprentice Charles McKenna with Andrew Kennedy from Kennedy Builders.

Kennedy Builders apprentice Charles McKenna is in the mix for the Master Builders Association of Victoria 2017 Apprentice of the Year after taking out a north-east region award recently.

Charles McKenna from Tocumwal took out the North East Apprentice of the Year in the category of Certificate III General Construction (Carpentry) at an awards night held in Benalla.

Charles joined Kennedy Builders as a mature-aged apprentice at 22 and is now in his third year.

While he hails from Tocumwal, he has firm Yarrawonga links with his mum working locally as a school teacher in the past.

After finishing his first home last year, Charles is looking forward to trying his luck in the state finals of the Apprenticeship of the Year Awards at a ceremony to be held in Melbourne on May 12.
