The Lake Mulwala Angling Club hosted one of the most successful fishing competitions in recent history on the weekend.

With 340 competitors, up 50 on last year, and 82 junior competitors a total of 388 fish were caught.

President Matt Giggins said despite the light rainfall on Friday evening, Saturday dawned overcast but recorded no rain and Sunday had perfect fishing conditions.

“The fishing was tremendous with 327 Murray Cod caught, 87 of which were legal size, 32 yellow bellys were also hooked with 29 being legal size,” he said.

“In addition to these 29 carp and two turtles were also reeled in.”

There were many prizes awarded at Sunday’s presentation with the Early Bird Prize winner, donated by Mal’s Tackle Box, being Jakita Verhover; the largest cod caught was 102cm by Nick Avery with the prize donated by Lake Edge Resort; the major prize of a 15hp motor donated by Leigh Martine Marine was won by a very excited Jamie Sellick and the Premier Junior Prize, donated by Macca’s Spinnerbaits was taken out by Vandah Dominick.

“Our raffle prize for this year was a fantastic kayak and this was won by Trevor Watters,” Matt said.

“I would like to thank all of our sponsors, major and minor, for donating such fantastic prizes and goods and I would especially like to thank everyone who entered and all the club volunteers for making this competition so successful.”

The 2018 Lake Mulwala Angling Club Fishing Competition will be held on April 28 and 29.
