The Sacred Heart Primary School Choir has a long-standing tradition of singing and entertaining the elderly at the St Cuthbert’s ‘Friendlies’ Mother’s Day gathering each year.
The choir sang beautifully led by Christine Cussen and the students then handed out chrysanthemums to all those who attended.
“We really love having this relationship with our community,” Mrs Cussen said.
“It’s so heart-warming to see the joy shared on both side. Special thanks to Carol Henderson who co-ordinates this event.”
The Friendlies program has been running for 31 years offering an early afternoon get together with a short devotional service followed by entertainment from volunteers for the elderly attendees, followed by afternoon tea, in the St Cuthbert’s Hall.
There is no cost to attend and afternoon tea is provided by the St Cuthbert’s ladies.
The Friendlies program provides a great opportunity for elderly people to catch up in a welcoming, safe environment with supervision from carers if required.
The next Friendlies get together will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 1.30pm.
