Another win for the Pigeon girls

The Pigeon girls have secured another win, increasing their season tally to five and maintaining top spot on the ladder after toppling Lavington on Sunday.

Doing their mother’s proud on their special day, both teams played the game with great spirit and sportsmanship.

The Yarrawonga girls gave their opposition three players to allow them to field a full side and they competed with all the grit and courage they would have shown for their own team.

The girls were on a roll from the first bounce with Maddie Warner booting the first major just 30 seconds into the first quarter then kicking a second soon after off Liv Elliott’s hard work.

Ella Jones in the middle continued last week’s awesome form and the consistent good work by Molly Kennedy in the centre kept the Yarrawonga girls on top.

Maddie Warner continued to star assisting in another goal kicked by Grace Thompson.

Erica Montgomery’s game was inspirational and assisted in keeping the Panthers scoreless at the first turn.

Each week the team continues to improve and Illa Crawford, Stella Mulquiney, Amy Griffith and Molly Kennedy ran out the game causing headaches for the Lavington coaching team.  Persistence paid off for Erica Montgomery with a goal in the third quarter cementing the teams lead.

The Pigeons maintained their lead for the game creating havoc for the struggling Panthers with only two scoring kicks for the match.

Jenna Knight put in a pearler across the half forward line and Amy Griffith and Grace Thomson’s fitness is paying dividends for the Yarrawonga team.

The Pigeon girls are looking forward to playing on home turf again next Sunday when they front up to the Alpine Lions for round seven.

Goals: Maddi Warner 3, Erica Montgomery 1, G Thomson 1.

Best Players:  Illa Crawford, Erica Montgomery, Molly Kennedy, Stella Mulquiney, Amy Griffith, Maddi Warner.
