Locals and visitors will have noticed the wide range of sporting memorabilia in the foyer of Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
It will all go under the hammer next Wednesday, May 31 in the club resort’s Willow Room over a three-course dinner complemented by Rutherglen’s Buller Wines and special guest speaker, Footscray/Western Bulldogs champion No. 7 Doug Hawkins.
The charity golf and dinner are part of the Peninsula Home Hospice’s golf classic here from Sunday May 28 to Thursday June 1. Locals are welcome to play in the event and to attend the golf presentation dinner and auction. Enquiries to the Pro Shop.
Established in 1984, Peninsula Home Hospice (PHH) is an accredited not-for-profit community palliative care organisation based in Frankston.
Last year was PHH’s first golf classic and auction at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort. Former St Kilda football champion, ‘Cowboy’ Neale, was guest speaker and was brilliant. Other items and getaway packages were also auctioned off last year and will be the same next week. Many locals snapped up good bargains.
Organiser of the event, Pat Randall, said local residents are welcome to ‘come and meet’ Doug Hawkins. “People can feel free to come in to the Willow Room, hear Doug speak and browse through the wonderful memorabilia,” she told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“Two of Doug’s legend jackets will be auctioned off and items of champion current day player Marcus Bontempelli will also be auctioned off.
Hawkins, who recently turned 57-years-of-age, represented Victoria, captained the Bulldogs from 1990 to 1993 and played 350 games - 329 with Footscray and 19 with Fitzroy - and is a regular on the NITV television’s popular Marngrook Footy Show.
“People will love hearing Doug speak. You don’t have to have dinner to be able to purchase whatever memorabilia you want. If you’re a Bulldog supporter, you’ll love what’s up for grabs.” Golf presentations will take place at 6.30pm, dinner at 7pm, Doug will speak and then the big auction.
