Pigeons down to Thurgoona Bulldogs

The work of Ella Jones was a highlight in the second half.

The Yarrawonga Youth Girls Football Team suffered only their second loss of the season going down to the Thurgoona Bulldogs in a one-sided affair on Sunday.

The Pigeons failed to score in the match with final scores being Yarrawonga 0.0.0 to Thurgoona 5.10.40.

Clearly the better team on the day, the Bulldogs came out hard and caught the Yarrawonga girls on the back foot from the first bounce.

The majority of the game was played in Thurgoona’s forward half and this translated on the scoreboard with the Pigeons finding it hard to get into a scoring position.

That being said there were definitely some positives for the Pigeons with Molly Burke and Finley Nyholm being solid in the backline all day.

The girls came out in the second half with renewed determination with the tackling of Ella Jones around the ground a highlight.

Erica Montgomery was also solid all day as was Finley Nyholm and Sarah Ryan.

The girls have committed to training hard on the track this week and rising to the challenge of Wodonga Raiders on their home ground next week after the Pigeons senior match.

The game starts at 4.45pm at Birralee Park.

Awards:  Finley Nyholm, Molly Burke, Ella Jones, Courtney Sexton, Sarah Ryan, Erica Montgomery.
