After just 19 months of competition golf, 13-year-old Baxter Droop has his handicap down to nine.
An excellent Murray Course round of 78 gross off 10 for a nett 68 last Saturday week resulted in the single figure achievement. Last year Baxter recorded a nett 68 on the Lake Course when off a 14 handicap.
Baxter commenced competition golf in November 2015 on a handicap of 32. “I’m very happy. It’s good, I’m pleased,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle about his single figure handicap. “Dad’s made me the golfer I am.”
His dad is Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort Pro Sop head professional, Evan Droop. “I’m pleased the way Baxter is progressing,” the proud father said.
“Baxter’s been more of a footballer and basketball than a golfer to date. He works hard at whatever he does.”
“I love them equally the same,” Baxter commented about the three sports he plays. “It’s just that golf is a year round sport.”
A Year 8 student at Sacred Heart College in Yarrawonga, the Mulwala resident has completed his second year in Junior Pennant for Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
Baxter’s older brother, 20-year-old Frazer, is playing off a handicap of plus four. With continued hard work, Baxter is on his way towards that handicap.
