Enjoying their win at the Victorian Country Championships are members of the success E5 team Fraser Bennett, Amber Gower, James Banks and Bruce Wright.

Over the long weekend in June, Yarrawonga Mulwala Table Tennis Association attended the 66th Victorian Country Championships with 6 teams competing against teams from across country Victoria.

The weekend was a successful one for all involved. Through cold weather and tough matches 2 of Yarrawonga’s teams came out on top winning the shields in their grades and a third team came runner-up.

The E5 winning team included Bruce Wright, who was competing in his 65th consecutive country championships, Fraser Bennett who took out the E5 leading player award and Amber Gower and James Banks who competed for the last time as juniors.

They all played tremendously well, winning against all the teams they played.

The D4 team who also came out with the first place shield included Murray Heather, Jason Cox, Darryl Bennett and Mick Saunders who was also competing in his 65th consecutive country championships.

Their team also played exceptionally well winning all matches.

Another of Yarrawonga’s teams took out the E6 second place with the majority of their team playing their first country week.

Yarrawonga’s Jack Bassett also took out leading player award in C1 section.

All teams played tremendously and should all be proud of their achievements over the weekend.

A special acknowledgement to Hayley Bennett and Tess Bassett who were the youngest participants at the country championships this year.

Sunday night saw players compete in the individual events. Fraser Bennett made it through to quarter finals in Under 15 Singles and Jack Bassett made it through to semi-finals in the same event.

Amber Gower made it to the quarter finals in the Open Women Singles, E grade singles and the Semi Finals in the Junior Girls.

It was another great weekend for all involved and the club hopes for another successful Country Week in 2018.
