The picnic seating was destroyed and damage was done to the surrounding structure and nearby water tank.

Yarrawonga Police are asking for public assistance in relation to a deliberately lit fire at a rest stop on the Murray Valley in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Sgt Damien Loiterton said plastic picnic table seating in a wayside stop on the Murray Valley Highway around 2kms west of Yarrawonga was well alight when the fire brigade attended at 4.50am on Thursday.

“The picnic setting was destroyed and damage was done to the surrounding structure, downpipes and water tank,” he said.

“It appears some type of accelerant may have been used to start the fire.

“Police are investigating and ask anyone with information or anyone who might have seen something in the area from around 4.30am Thursday to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 or Yarrawonga Police (ph: 5744 3641).”
