Yarrawonga’s Corina Downie has been nominated for a 2017 AusMumpreneur award to be presented in Sydney in August.
The AusMumpreneur Awards, organised by The AusMumpreneur Network, celebrate and recognise Australian mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation.
The awards are designed to recognise the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Corina Downie is a mother of two and an entrepreneur who is building “a life by design”.
“Through my social media and website I empower and motivate other women to build businesses around their children and families so they can live a lifestyle they design,” Corina said.
“After working 15 plus years and 80 hour weeks in a traditional business as a hairdresser, I suffered a hand injury plus I was missing out on time with my children.
“I was trading time for money and I knew there had to be an easier way.
“I sold my home and business in Melbourne and moved my family to beautiful Yarrawonga for a tree change six and a half years ago.”
At the time she told her husband she was going to work from home to supplement their income.
“I literally googled ‘work from home’ on the internet and with virtually no computer skills, I started to learn everything I could about online businesses, branding and marketing,” she said.
“I saw other women doing it and figured if they could do it, then I could too.
“You have to find a mentor and the right business model, brand yourself and then treat your business like a business, not a hobby.”
