The Yarrawonga/Mulwala Mixed Probus Group was formed on June 24, 2002 following a public meeting of interest to discuss the formation of a third Probus group in the area.
The meeting was a great success with 66 foundation members forming the first mixed club in Yarrawonga/Mulwala.
With ten very determined people forming the steering committee the membership was set at 70 but was changed to 80 the following month, the club now has a membership of 99, 14 foundation members (Judith Benham, Judy Bruce, Adele and Bill Church, Jenny and Lee Powell, Merle Duncan, Carole and Bob Hargreaves, Helen Hollingsworth, Val Lawless, Anne Myers and Jan and Jack Sterkenburg) are still current members of the group.
At the recent monthly meeting Judith Benham, the group’s first President, addressed the members giving them an informative background on the club’s formation and history.
Following Judith’s address six of the foundation members were presented with a Foundation Member Pin before cutting a birthday cake which was kindly made and decorated by Dot Williams.
The current members thank the foresight of those founding members for their hard work, the results now being enjoyed by a large group of the local community.
