Around the Greens

Although the weather has been kind and members were able to play all scheduled games this week, it has still been rather chilly out there on the greens and does seem to discourage all but the hardened players.
Entry sheets of all inter-club championship games can now be found on the A-frame in the clubrooms. If you would like to enter all or just one of these championships could you please put your name on the entry forms.
On Monday, July 17, bowlers played Nominated Pairs 2-4-2 with 14 teams on the greens for this game and the winners of the day were Keith McQualter and Liz Murdoch, the runners-up were Ron Makin and Tony Forristal.  
The jackpot was not claimed on the day so it has been carried over until July 24.
Wednesday, July 19 bowlers played Jackpot Triples with 18 players on the greens and the winners of this game were Carl Smith, Val Kennedy and Gary Polkinghorne.
The runners-up were Ron Neilsen, Noleen Borg and Tony Forristal.  
The jackpot was not claimed on the day so it has been carried over until July 26.
On Saturday, July 22 members played a social game of bowls and the winners of this game were Brian Bennett, Teddy Edwards, Carl Scott and Ron Makin.
The runners-up were P. Dodman, Brian Batty and Jock McQualter.  
The jackpot was not won on the day so it has been carried over until July 29.
Next week’s games are Wednesday July 26 Jackpot Triples, Saturday July 29 Social game, Monday August 2 Nominated Pairs 2-4-2. All games start at 12.30pm and entry for all games close at 11am on the day of the game.
ClubMulwala Indoor Bowls
Social bowls; Glenyce Willox (s), Fran Smith and Frank Liberg were the winners on Monday, July 17 with 33 points and +17.
Wilf Owen (s), Barb Eberle and Sue Stillard with 33 points also but only +9 came second. The cards were fanned for third, the lucky people being Marna Tomlinson (s), Reg Bryce and Chris Linberg.
There were 2 x 2 game winners on Thursday, July 22. The winners with 32 points were Reg Bryce (s), Ellen Buckley, Monica O’Callaghan and Marie Gent.
Second came Marna Tomlinson (s), Val Bryce and Joan Wilson with 30 points.
The winner of Fan the cards for third were Trish Murphy (s), Jill Carr, Chris Liberg and Sue Stillard.
Open Tournament; The Gala Day was a great success even when one team had to cancel on Friday before. 
The club had teams from Barooga Sports Benalla Senior Citizens, Cobram Senior Citizens, Corowa, SS&A, Wangaratta, Wodonga, Wunghnu and Mulwala.
Three games of 10 ends were played and there were prizes for each fill.
The winners of the first fill were from Wodonga skippered by Jenny Scattergood. The runners-up came from Wunghnu and were skippered by Karen Dighton.
The second fill had to end with a bye as one team left early. The winners came from Corowa and were skippered by Gas Sanders. The runners-up came from Wangaratta and were the unfortunate team to have the bye. They were skippered by Ralph Nalder. 
The next open tournament is the club’s Charity Day in August as is the Annual General Meeting. Nomination forms for all positions are on the noticeboard.
Club Mulwala Outdoor Bowls
The weather continues to be fickle at this time of year and does have an effect on the number of bowlers hitting the green.
Tuesday Social was well supported by the brave hearts of the club who braved the rain to complete two games.
Winners on the day were John Thurling and Cliff Morton, runners-up were Dodi and laurie Leary. The jackpot did not go off.
Sunday was the club’s first day of the new format and was well supported by members on a fantastic sunny day, with the green in superb condition.
Winners were Doug Chessum and Cliff Morton, runners up Carmen mangan and John Thurling. The jackpot did not go off.
Remember: Social Bowls for the winter: Midweek 12.30 on Tuesday (names in by 11am on the day).
Sunday Social: As advised in last weeks report the Sunday format has bee changed to enable single entry bowlers to join in, the previous 2-4-2 format was believed to be too restrictive in that it required an even number of pairs to enter, names in by 11am on the day please.
Membership fees are now due, payment can be left at reception in an envelope addressed to treasurer David King.
Lists are up for those wishing to play Tueday or Saturday pennant to enter their names. The club needs experienced and also new players, if you have any questions please contact President Dodi.
Wednesday pairs had 16 brave bowlers taking on the chilly elements, with only 2 teams winning both their games.
Victory went to Ray Brown and one of the club’s new members Peter Richmond with a score of 17 shots up and the other 2 game winners were Bob Tett and Danny McNeill with 9 shots up. The jackpot failed to go off.    
Friday saw 24 bowlers play on a warm sunny winter’s day. There were 3 two game winners with the combination of Ian Cumming and Lois Ellis winning with 9 shots up, runners-up for the day were Kerry Kinnane and Celia Milne - not a bad come back after only winning the last end going down 1 to 24 in their first game. Ian and Lois then won the Jackpot.
Sunday bowls had 20 players and there were 2 two game winners.
Winners were Bob Evans and a new bowler in Greg Fisher with 11 shots up. Second went to Mal Beer, Ian Morffew and another new member in Bob Brokenshire with 10 shots up.
The winners of the steak night vouchers for the also rans were Bob Tett and Vic Brincat.
If you are interested in a game on Sunday put your name down on the sheet, games start at 1pm with a random draw for partners.
