A chilly start turned into a perfect day for the 2017 Duke Cup Golf Day at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort on Sunday.
Unfortunately with junior footy and the Pigeon girls youth team preliminary final commitments, the guest of honour Les ‘The Duke’ Garbutt had more important duties but was there for presentations at the end of the day.
With Les and Glenn Brear out (resting from knee surgery) the 2017 competition was an even playing field and could have gone any way.
However it was young guns Matt Grinter, Matt Bourke, Jarryd Whinray and Tim ‘Wizard’ Cooper who came up trumps with a final score for the Ambrose competition of 52 1/8.
Runners-up with a score of 54 were Brett Ridley, Rob Adkins, Mick Cooke and Geoff Runnalls.
Longest drive went to Tim Clarke, men’s nearest the pin Drew Barnes and ladies nearest the pin Tim Clarke (yes you read that right).
The encouragement award for the best ladies team went to the only ladies team of Ruth Mackie, Shea Doyle, Penne Tregenza and Heather Kelly.
Just as well for one ladies team given the team’s biggest handicap was Penne who could have won a prize for the most misses.
Mixed team of Roy McCann, Viv Greaney, Norm and Caz Moule also had a red hot go mixing up the competition.
Thirteen teams registered and it was a great way to spend a Sunday with plenty of laughs and carry on between teams.
Thanks to all who took part and the YFNC look forward to seeing you all back again to contest the 2018 Duke Cup Golf Day.
