A Grade

Mulwala 31 defeated by Cobram 48.
The Lions started well this week, overcoming their first quarter curse to score goal for goal with the Tigers.
Jordy was on fire in goals, hardly missing and together with Chloe, holding up against the physicality of the game.
Loz, Nat and Maddi provided plenty of drive in attack, feeding the ball well, utilising their baulks into well set-up screens.
Rorri worked overtime in defence, well supported by Cara and Hayley.
Unfortunately Cobram’s height and strength in goals was just too much for the Lions to overcome. Well done on some excellent passages of play.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Rorri Phibbs, La Porchetta – Jordy McCarthy

B Grade

Mulwala 31 defeated by Cobram 34
A tough game this week with the girls lacking their normal spark as they took to the court, going through the motions and trying to keep pace with a determined Cobram side.
In the second quarter the girls found their mojo, with Brit and Amy adjusting their stance and shutting down the Cobram goalers.
Tayla came on into goals, providing much needed accuracy and strong holds, making it easy for the centre court to pass into the ring. The scores were level again at half time.
The Lions worked hard until tragedy struck and Tayla was put out of the game with a serious ankle injury, allowing Cobram to take the lead by 4 goals going into the last.
The girls continued to fight hard and Brit was outstanding in defence, constantly turning the ball over and sending in back down into attack.
Unfortunately the girls ran out of time, going down by 3 goals.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Brit Hanley, Mulwala Pharmacy – Tea Glass

C Grade

Mulwala 38 defeated Cobram 36
It was a hard fought game at Cobram against a very strong side.
The first quarter was neck and neck with both sides fighting hard.
The next two quarters Cobram increased the speed and gained a 5 goal lead going into the last quarter.
The Lions realised it was a must win game and they lifted their intensity to close the gap and come away with a 2 goal win.
The defensive pressure down the court was excellent and the attackers drove on to the ball and finished well with accurate passing in to the goalies.
Well done everyone on an exciting finish and well-earned win.

17 and under

Mulwala 27 defeated by Cobram 49
A strong first quarter found the girls trailing by only a few goals.
Maddi worked overtime in WD to provide the defensive end with hands over every ball and multiple intercepts.
Jess’ rebounds, speed and blocking ability helped rattle the Cobram goalers early, but unfortunately they were too strong and were able to pull away coming into the second half.
Lilly and Dee’s accuracy and ability in goals helped the team to capitalise on their turnovers.
The scoreboard did not reflect the fast paced game, however, Cobram played 4 solid quarters and their speed and accuracy were too good on the day as they pulled away with a 22 goal win.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Maddi Cooksey, YMGCR – Jess Barton, Judds Mensland – Lilly Gallagher.

15 and under

Mulwala 20 defeated by Cobram 24
It was a hard fight this week for the junior Lions. With a full team the girls were all fired up and ready to go.
They worked constantly on their passes and all players on the court took many intercepts.
However, Cobram’s shooting accuracy this week got them over the line.
The Lions fought hard but just couldn’t match the Tigers. The club would like to wish Zali Peters good luck in China as this was her last game with the girls.

The defensive pressure was stepped up all over the court with Freya and Bella keeping Cobram to 3 for the quarter, resulting in an 8 goal turnaround and a lead of 6 going into the final quarter.
Jazz and Abbey were working the ball around making better choices while Piper, struggling with illness, still had an impact on the game.
Chloe stepped up from 12s to help out and played with great determination. The girls never gave up and came home with a 9 goal win.

Mulwala 13 defeated by Cobram 19
The young Lions took the court with a new hop in their step. With morale high the young Lions were on a mission to prove that they are a very capable side.
All nine girls worked hard to master their leads and this paid off with some excellent passages of play.
Cobram was stunned by the defensive pressure that the Lions applied causing some well-earned turnovers.
Unfortunately the girls went down by six but it was their most competitive game with their best score yet. Well done girls – keep working hard.
