Lachlan Phillips in under 12s action.

A season of two halves would come to an end at Martin Park for the youngest Pigeons on Sunday.

After starting the season with two heavy losses and not even registering a score, the boys have had and extraordinary end to the season finishing with a berth in the biggest game of them all - the grand final.
Although falling short at the final hurdle the boys showed true grit to fight the game out to the end.
In a grandstand finish the boys exploded into life in the final quarter to close the gap to two points with five minutes go but it was not to be with Lavington kicking the last two goals of the game.
Lachie Phillips was magnificent in defence and when he went forward in the last quarter turned the game on its head threatening to win the game off his own boot.
Mac Pendergast also played his heart out starting in the midfield before being moved into the ruck where he started to get on top and give the other mids first look at the football.
Mitch Loughnan was collected early in a marking contest and came off with a leg injury.
The true competitor Mitch is he dug deep and willed himself back into the contest and finished the game out as one of the team’s better players.
Xavier Walker, battling a hand injury, pushed himself to the limit taking a crucial contested mark in the goal square which kick started the final quarter comeback.
Jack Bassett and Loch Harvey also played well across half back, tackling hard and taking intercept marks.
Darby Mullins did what he does best throwing himself into contests and put his body on the line time and time again.
Although the boys didn’t get the outcome they desired, they certainly got the most out of themselves and it was a great achievement to get to the grand final from where they started the season from.
Yarrawonga 2.3.15 defeated by Lavington 4.5.29.
Best Players: Lachie Phillips, Mac Pendergast, Mitch Loughnan, Xavier Walker, Jack Bassett, Loch Harvey, Darby Mullins.
Goals: Jet Peters, Xavier Walker.
