Reserves fall at final hurdle

The Yarrawonga reserves had a massive challenge ahead of them stepping up to the Wodonga Raiders, who they had yet to defeat in 2017, for the Ovens and Murray Premiership at Lavington on Saturday.

The Raiders had recruited well with their senior grade no longer in the finals campaign, allowing their reserves team to pick up a handful of senior players.
Yarrawonga started off strong with Jayden Gallagher kicking the first goal from around 30 metres out.
The first goal did not come easy with high defensive pressure coming from both sides.
After that first goal at the 15 minute mark of the first quarter, Yarrawonga seemed to step right up, kicking another 3 goals and leaving Wodonga Raiders goalless at the first break.
The second quarter was when Raiders showed their colours kicking 2 goals 3 to Yarrawonga’s 2 points leaving the Pigeons with just a 2 point lead at the main break.
The second half saw Yarrawonga increase their defensive effort but they could not convert on the scoreboard.
In the last quarter the Raiders were just too good for Yarrawonga, charging away to take the premiership win.
