A group of determined Yarrawonga College P-12 students celebrated completing a 12 week ‘Challenge Yourself’ program recently on the path to greater fitness, social connection, resilience and self-esteem.
Challenge Yourself saw 14 students in years 7 and 9 complete the program made available through an Australian Sports Commission funded initiative called the Youth Participation Program.
The funding allowed Yarrawonga College P-12 to develop a 12 week training program in partnership with Focus Wellbeing and Fitness.
The students participated in a weekly group session and were expected to complete their individual program created by Focus trainers at least twice a week.
It was anticipated that after 12 weeks participants would notice a fitness benefit and this was certainly the case for the 14 students who completed the program.
The students were supported by a number of college staff and Focus staff monitored the program with regular individual consultations.
The most important benefits realised through the program were building resilience, social connection, fitness and self-esteem.
The Challenge Yourself saw students enjoyed a great morning tea celebration provided by the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
Years 5-8 Campus Leader Georgina Thomas presented each of the participants with a certificate and the students were congratulated by family members who attended the morning tea.
Yarrawonga College P-12 will seek further funding support to enable the program to continue in 2018.
