The upcoming Murray Quad will be used as lead up and support event for Deniliquin swimmer Brenda Norman as she attempts to swim across the English Channel.
The 36 year-old teacher at Deniliquin High School will attempt to swim the English Channel in August, next year as a means to raise funds to support the delivery of much-needed services, to reduce stigma and increase resources within the community.
Brenda with the support of fellow teachers from the high school will be entering a relay team for the Murray Quad on November 18.
Event Director Tim Roadley said the Murray Quad prides itself in connecting with the community and supporting the people living in the Murray River district.
“Brenda is looking forward to completing the 3.2km swim on Lake Mulwala as a part of her training and at the same time working with other community groups in the area to help them understand the importance of mental health in today’s youth.
“We are pleased to support Brenda and her “Channel 4 Change” campaign.
‘‘The swim leg will be re-named to the Channel 4 Change Inland Open Water Swim for this year’s event,” Tim said
Brenda Norman said all local and rural communities are impacted by the complexity of health issues and to raise awareness at the Murray Quad is a bonus.
“I am looking forward to competing in my first Murray Quad Event.
“This is an area where we must work together for the benefit of all members of our community,” Brenda said.
The Murray Quad boasts a total distance of 141km making it the longest quadrathlon event in the world. Athletes will compete over a 3.2km swim, 21.1km half marathon run, 91.5km individual bike time trial and a 25km paddle from Yarrawonga to Tocumwal.
If the thought of completing in the whole 141km involving four completely different sports is too much why not partner up with one, two, three or even seven of your mates and take on the Murray Quad together you can also enter the event as either an individual or part of relay team.
Those who wish to just do a run, paddle or swim can also register for a single event.
Registrations are open until the Friday prior to the event. If you require any further information on the Murray Quad please contact Tim Roadley on 0417 373 376 or go to the website at www.murrayquad.com.au.
