Thanks to the support of the Mulwala Water Ski Club of $26,000 two projects have been made possible in assisting Yarrawonga Health continue to provide the community with excellent high-quality care.

The first project of $19,000 enabled a partnership with Alzheimer’s Australia which allowed for the implementation of the innovative and best practice Montessori Principles into the Yarrawonga Health model of care for residents with dementia.
The donation enabled the partnership with Alzeimer’s Australia to provide training and education to Yarrawonga Health staff, assisting residents and relative involvement as well as enhancing the dementia specific supportive environment within the Allawah Memory Support Unit at Yarrawonga Health which provides permanent and respite residential aged care for residents with a diagnosis of dementia and those who require complex care.
The benefits to the recipients of care in Allawah have been invaluable, truly recognising the living community that is Allawah and in demonstrating the potential and opportunities for those with memory impairment to actively participate in the community.
Director for clinical services Kaye Gall said, ‘The Montessori Project made possible through the support by the Mulwala Water Ski Club is the culmination of months of diligent work within the Allawah unit and our Lifestyle team and shows Yarrawonga Health delivers innovative, best practice models of care that continue to strengthen services in our rural community.
“I congratulate Jane and the team for their commitment to this project and thank the Mulwala Water Ski Club for supporting this important project and the exceptional results it has delivered,” Ms Gall said.
The second donation of an additional $7,000 was put towards specialised equipment including a blood pressure and vital signs monitor for Karana, defibrillator, blinds to complete the refurbishment of new rooms in Karana and a medical princess chair for resident use.
