Suzi’s still keeps-a-knockin’

December 27, 2017

Suzi Quatro will headline the 2018 Mulwala Water Ski Club Red Hot Summer Tour on January 6.

Arguably the first lady of rock Suzi Quatro has had a long and successful career and the 2018 Mulwala Water Ski Club Red Hot Summer Tour will be witness to just why when she headlines the tour on January 6.

After a massive 50 years in the business Suzi has seen everything and been asked every question under the sun yet she is still going strong saying she jumped at the chance to headline the tour that travels around regional Australia.
Just don’t ask her what it was like being the only female in a male dominated industry.
In 1964 after seeing a television performance by the Beatles, Suzi’s older sister Patti formed an all-female garage rock band called the Pleasure Seekers with two friends and Suzi soon joined too assuming the stage name of Suzi Soul.
After six years of playing in the Pleasure Seekers with her sister she moved to the UK in 1971 after being spotted by the record producer of Rak Records.
Although starting out in a band and releasing singles with the group Suzi found her fame as a solo artist and during the 70s she had a string of hits, with many being in the top 10 in Australia.
This is definitely not Suzi’s first time to Australia with her completing her 31st visit earlier this year but it is also not her first time to Yarrawonga Mulwala.
Suzi spoke to the Yarrawonga Chronicle ahead of headlining the much anticipated 2018 Mulwala Water Ski Club Red Hot Summer Tour.
“I did a Red Hot Summer Tour in 2014, it’s a little different than other tours but it’s nice because you can go and enjoy the music of the other artists,” Suzi said.
“I’ve played with a few of the others before and we’ve had a great time, I’m looking forward to it again this year.”
“I’ve been everywhere, I’ve done the country places and the big places, I’ve kind of been everywhere in Australia and I love it,” Suzi said.
“For the Red Hot tour I’ll be coming out of Melbourne because I have an apartment there so it’s not the usual way of touring but then you can have some down-time and its homelier.”
When asked what people can be certain of when she is performing Suzi said you certainly won’t be left uninterested.
“You will be entertained I can promise you that,” Suzi said.
Even after half a century Suzi still loves the industry, touring her music and presenting rock shows on television and she says she will never be able to give it all up.
“Just after my 50th anniversary I was offered to do my 31st tour of Australia and I thought what a wonderful swansong to do my final tour down under but then I got asked to do the Red Hot Summer Tour,” Suzi said.
“After my tour out here in February I got home and I was buzzing, I’m never going to say I’m going to stop again because it doesn’t work, I can’t stand it.
“I really can’t and I didn’t know it until I stopped and now I just can’t do it, music and touring is in my blood.”
In the recent months Suzi has released a book, one that is based around what she knows best and she is also in the midst of promoting another album.
“At the moment I’m promoting a greatest hits album- my life is basically a promotion,” Suzi said.
“I’ve also just released a book called the hurricane about a rock chick because that’s what I know.
“She is a rock n roll guitar player post Suzi Quatro and I found that quite exciting creating a character that comes after me.”
Suzi Quatro is headlining the Mulwala Water Ski Clubs Red Hot Summer Tour along with Aussie rockers Moving Pictures, Chocolate Starfish, The Screaming Jets, Baby Animals and The Angels on Saturday, January 6, 2018.
Organisers confirmed last week the concert was a sell-out with more than delete 3,500 rock fans expected to attend.
Campsites are also available at the Mulwala Football Ground, around 600 metres from the Ski Club, for those who want to stay the night.
Tent and caravan sites are available, bookings are essential, call the Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Information Centre on 5744 1989.
