Rodeo still goes ahead

Bad weather throughout the afternoon forced Yarrawonga Rodeo numbers to be down on previous years but those who still attended the event on Friday, December 29 had a great time.

Despite the dreary weather, brave cowboys and cowgirls battled through the conditions much to the delight of dedicated fans with riders competing for championship points and full prize money.
“Our numbers were down this year compared to previous years due to the weather, that storm just crucified us,” said event organiser Jan Parker.
“At 5 o’clock when people are deciding what to do the storm hit, so it hurt us a bit but although some people might have been deterred those who love the event persevered and were rewarded with a great night.”
The prestigious John Collins Memorial Saddle Bronc Buckle was won by Dean Oliver for the second year running after ending in a three-way tie last year.
“We seem to be both lucky and unlucky when it comes to the weather on our rodeo weekends with last year having perfect conditions but we can’t complain, we haven’t had too many issues over the years,” she said.
“We’ll just write this one up as being one of our unlucky years but we look forward to coming back bigger and better.”
