Yarrawonga Rowing Club competed last week at the Murray River Rowing Association, annual two day rowing regatta on Lake Moodemere.
This regatta has been held for the last 153 years and there was no shortage of competitors travelling far and wide for the event.
The competitors ranged in ages from 12 to veterans competing in events from novice to elite racing. All boat classes were involved from single sculls, double sculls and quad sculls, to pairs, fours and eights.
Locals Mary and Patrick Mansfield competed on the Sunday in the mixed double sculls. Patrick also backed that up in the masters single scull event.
The pair finished a gallant third in a tight fought race with Patrick’s single scull result going one more in second. The weather was ideal with a slight tail breeze helping all competitors down the course.
This was the mother and son combinations first time in the boat together and it seems it won’t be their last. The YRC will be looking at competing in more events before the end of the season.
For anyone wanting to come and try rowing either to have a social row or start competing, the Yarrawonga Rowing Clubs training nights are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30 and Sundays from 8am. Contact Patrick Mansfield on 0427 632 622 for more info
