Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club duo Reid Clarke and Matt Casey have helped the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association to the Division Two Title at Bendigo Country Week held on January 15 to 19.
Clarke was Vice Captain of the WDCA team with Rover United Bruck’s Jacob Schonafinger as Captain. He was also a member of the 2017 WDCA Division Three Title in Bendigo last year.
Clarke opened the batting in the five games across the week with Luke Whitten. The highlight was an 87-run inning against Colac on Thursday in a 100-run opening partnership. Colac is somewhat of Clarke’s bogey team, having scored over 70 in last year’s final and then 135 against them at Melbourne Country Week in 2017.
For Casey; his first trip to Bendigo Country Week will be a memorable experience with scores of 59 not out against Maryborough, 100 not out against Red Cliffs and 53 against Colac on Thursday, amassing 231 runs for the week at an average of 77 runs.
It is a great achievement to have two representatives from Yarrawonga Mulwala in the WDCA representative team and both played crucial roles across the four preliminary games and the final.
The win sees the WDCA go into Division 1 in 2019, after winning Division Two in 2018 and Division Three in 2017.
