Past lady president of Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort Edith Mason received a big round of applause for her milestone 80th birthday which was celebrated at the Ladies 2018 Opening Pinehurst event followed by lunch last Wednesday.
Two speeches were given in respect of Edith who turned 80-years-of-age on January 18. Rosemarie Sandow summed up Edith’s value perfectly: “Edith has been a fantastic contributor to the club.”
Earlier, immediate past lady president Gloria Roome outlined the star-of-the-show’s career, from Edith’s early Cobram days, attending school in Melbourne and becoming a state sales manager for a firm producing uniforms to corporate clients.
Since arriving in Yarrawonga in 2004, Edith has been actively involved both on and off the golf course, having played pennant regularly and holding key positions on the ladies committee.
After being lady vice-president, she served a three-year term as president from 2012 to 2014.
“Edith has also won golf trophies, summer pennant with Heather Baxter coming to mind and C Grade Champion (last year),” Gloria said.
Gloria, who served as vice-president to Edith, met Edith in 2005 while playing bridge with Yarrawonga Bridge Club.
“Edith is a very dear and loyal friend who is there when needed,” Gloria said.
Edith expressed her thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in the day. “I’ve had a wonderful time since I’ve been here,” she said. “I look upon everyone here as my friend.
“It’s lovely to be surrounded by so many people who are so caring.”
