The YMBA Under 16 Boys Division 3 quarter finalists.

The YMBA Under 18 girls Division semi-finalists.

With 79 teams vying for titles in the Division 3, Division 4 and Division 5 Basketball Victoria Country State Championships recently, Yarrawonga-Mulwala Basketball Association (YMBA) came home with the Under 18 Division 5 Boys title.

The YMBA Under 18 representative side won the grand final over Horsham in impressive fashion by 19 points- 60-41.
Sam Mickelson had an absolute field day for the Lakers clocking up a massive 30 points on the board, along with Jordyn Studd (9 points) and Max Hemphill (9 points).
The team finished off their weekend with a pleasing win for coach Matt Lonergan, who lead his charge through some tough battles leading up to the final.
Members of the winning team were Sam Mickelson, Austin Frauenfelder, Jesse Walker, BJ Martin, Jordyn Studd, Max Hemphill, Alex Byrne and Marcus Quinn (absent in photo). All boys played well and contributed to the win to bring home the title and championship trophy for YMBA.
Other great results for the weekend included a semi-final playoff for the YMBA under 18 girls team in Division 3.
The girls played some tough basketball over the weekend under some trying conditions considering they had just six players, with Maddi McInness injured and cheering on from the sidelines.
Coached by Craig Frauenfelder, the girls played Seymour Blasters in the semi and although they lost 33-20, it was such a credit to these girls to make Div 3 and get to the semi-finals.
The team consisted of Emme Shand, Montanna Moon, Ebony Woodburn, Laura Zanin, Indiannah Frauenfelder, Georgia Lawless and Maddi McInness.
The weekend was a fitting end for some of the YMBA top age U18 Boys and Girls, as this was their last tournament playing as YMBA juniors. Players such as Laura Zanin, Maddi McInness, Sam Mickelson, Austin Frauenfelder, Jordyn Studd, Marcus Quinn and Alex Byrne have all played in the local YMBA domestic competition from under 10’s and have risen up through the ranks and developed into the amazing basketballers that they are today with the help and development of the YMBA club. Well done to these players and all the best with your basketball beyond the junior level.
The YMBA Under 16 Boys made it to the Division 3 Quarter final against Ararat and lost by just 3 points in a game of see-sawing emotion. Guided by coach Brett Harvey, the boys had a flawless run up to the quarters and unfortunately just got pipped at this point. The team of Baxter Droop, Tom Gorman, Nathan Davies, Josh McInness, Ben Woodburn, Will Wheaton, Zac Banch and Fletcher Wallden have shown great improvement over the season and played some top-quality basketball over the championships.
The YMBA Under 16 Girls also made it to the Division 3 Quarter final against the Seymour Blasters, but were beaten 33-21. The score didn’t reflect the intensity of the game and the effort these girls put in. Coach Tania Harvey was happy with the girls’ effort and even more proud of them making the Division 3 quarter final.
The team of Lara Langford, Gertie McCallum, Tess Byrne, Annie Robilliard, Macey Hicks, Kyah Harvey, Ruby Wallden and Piper Poll all gave 100% and are a credit to themselves.
Overall, YMBA had a fantastic tournament with massive improvement in all age groups evidenced by teams playing in a higher division than they played in last year. Well done to the effort that all coaches have put in with the teams as the results are a reflection of your hard work and dedication.
