Round two of the 2018 season will mark a historical moment for the Murray Football Netball League as a new era begins.
Last night at a MFNL Special General meeting, Tungamah, Katandra and Shepparton East Football Netball clubs were officially welcomed to the league taking the number of clubs to 15.
MFNL General Manager said Dale Norman it been a hectic couple of weeks with many sleepless nights.
“All the existing Murray Football Netball League  clubs embraced the new clubs expressing sympathy for the angst and stress that the ex PDFNL club executives and volunteers have had to endure,” Norman said.
“On behalf of the Murray Football Netball League Executive I commend the attitude of the existing Murray Football Netball League clubs.
“They too have had to endure uncertainty of what the competition may look like.
“Fixture after fixture has been presented with plans and social events thrown into chaos.
“This has evoked emotional responses which was to be expected.
“Starting something new is never easy, but the help and cooperation from the various stakeholders will surely make the new look League a huge success.
“We do not see this as a band aid solution but a long term destination for the new clubs.
“But to ensure the long term sustainability a collaborative approach is required amongst all football and netball bodies who are party to the league and the region.”
A new fixture was ratified by all clubs at the meeting.
To add stability for the existing Murray Football Netball League clubs the fixture will not change for the first three rounds.
The season has already started with a full round of matches played on Good Friday.
At that stage the new clubs were not part of the League. To accommodate this round 1 would have had Shepparton East having the bye and Tungamah was scheduled to play Katandra.
This game will now be played on the general bye weekend of July 7 as a standalone fixture.
Every club will play each other at least once over the course of the season.
A final eight will also be introduced by the League for season 2018.
