Caught their dads

Three young teenage golfers have outscored their dads who include two professionals at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
In a recent Thursday stableford event on the Lake Course during the school holidays, Baxter Droop, playing off a handicap of two, had a big grin on his face.
“I beat Dad for the first time!” the 14-year-old proudly told the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “I finished with 43 points, four under. Dad finished one over. I was pretty happy!”
His Dad of course is head professional, Evan Droop, who chipped in beautifully, in response, to the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “Do you know what happens to a race horse father when it retires?” he asked.
“It’s very important to know the blood lines - I could be in the paddock or a good coach!”
Interestingly, in that particular stableford event, pro shop professional and playing group member Dale Corothers, off plus two, fired an eagle on the 18th Par 5 hole to pip Baxter.
Ben Casley had the pleasure of eclipsing his Dad, professional Shane Casley, in a more recent Saturday stableford event.
“Pretty rapt!” was how the 15-year-old, six-handicapper described his inaugural victory over Dad. “I’d been after him for a while and I got him!”
Scores that day don’t matter, although the senior person, off five, must have been thinking about his Hawks in scoring 83 off the stick. “Neither of us played great golf,” Shane said. “But he got me!”
Oliver Ridley overtook his nine-handicap Dad, Brett Ridley, last year. “It was about a year ago,” the 13-year-old with a seven handicap advised. “Now I beat him regularly!”
Brett doesn’t mind. “It took a while for him to catch me. I’m happy for him.”
