Craig Stickling loves his new country and golf club.

A visit to Australia mid last year followed by a visit to Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort in December is proving a win:win situation for the club resort’s latest professional, Craig Stickling from South Africa, and the club resort.

Craig 32, came across Pro Shop Solutions Big Buy Group and the opportunity to meet with our local Head of Pro Shop, Evan Droop eventuated months later.
“I was very happy with what I saw,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle of his December visit. “I took lots of photos and videos for my wife. I could see a better future for my family.”
Craig’s wife Geraldine, son Carter, 5 and daughter Scarlett, 3 flew out from South Africa last week. They’re now Yarrawonga residents. “We’re very happy,” he said.
Used to living in a multi million population city, Craig, who has friends and family members in Australia and New Zealand, considered and visited capital cities but YMGCR clearly won out.
On March 7, Craig commenced duty in the pro shop. “Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort is an unbelievable facility. The people are unbelievably friendly, welcoming - no issues. I can see my future here,” he said.
“My goal is to get permanent residency in six to eight months then get Australian citizenship four years after that.”
On the work front, Craig will assist Evan in all departments of the pro shop
Craig plays off scratch, and has done so since turning professional 10 years ago in Benoni, Johannesburg.
Before golf, the talented sportsman was a star cricketer, as an allrounder, batting number three and bowling off-spin. “I played Provincial Cricket. It was my number one sport at school,” he said.
At age 13, he started playing golf but only took it up seriously after his university studies - which resulted in a sports management qualification - before qualifying as a professional golfer.
Evan said Craig was a welcome addition to the pro shop. “He’s just fantastic, a very valuable asset to our team.”
