Mulwala Netball

A Grade

Mulwala 41 defeated Katandra 34.
An even first quarter made the Lions realise more work hard was needed to get a victory against the accurate Cats.
Some great defensive turnovers helped the Lions increase the margin to 5 up at half time.
The girls kept applying pressure and finishing off this work well in attack, increasing the margin out to 10 at one stage.
However, the Cats kept at it all day and won the last quarter as the Lions made errors in the hot conditions.
The Lions got the four points in the end and should be happy with their team effort and their work on developing their team play.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Brodie Pfeiffer, MFNC Rewards Card – Tayce Gallagher, Judds Yarrawonga – Cara Wood.

B Grade

Mulwala 55 defeated Katandra 21.
Another team effort by the girls. The pressure all over the court was impressive once again.
Emme, Morgan, Lisa and Georgia were fantastic in defence, consistently turning the ball over and creating havoc in the Cats attacking end. Tayla and Emma moved the ball well through the centre court to finish off with accurate shooting by Teagan, Tea’ and Chelsea.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Tegan Panter, MFNC Rewards Card – Georgia Glass, One Zach – Emme Shand.

C Grade

Mulwala 51 defeated Katandra 16.
This week the Lions faced Katandra not knowing how they would perform after a 3 game break. However the girls came out strong with some great passages of play down the court.
Although the Lions made some silly mistakes at times, they all worked hard to get the ball back.
In the 3rd quarter Mulwala eased off the pace and only scored 4 goals.  This however provided the impetus the girls needed and they came out hard in the final quarter to come home with a convincing win, 51 -16. Let’s get to training and work hard on the passing and foot work.

Mulwala 38 drew with Katandra 38.
The Lions played an excellent game of netball against Katandra this past weekend, displaying great defensive pressure not only in the defence end but all over the court, getting intercept after intercept.  It was a hard game but all players continued to work as hard as they could throughout the whole game.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Stassy McCarthy, MFNC Rewards Card – Tara Green, Mulwala Pharmacy.

17 and under

Mulwala 26 defeated by Katandra 37.
The Lions took to the court this week with yet another combination in goals, trying to find their groove and utilising the versatility of all players.
Heidi started in goals and shone, moving with speed and agility one minute and then holding the next. At the other end Jess and Abbey combined beautifully in the defence ring, well supported by Sarah around the ring to turn the ball over numerous times.  Tess, Hollie and Liv worked the centre court, applying great pressure.
Katandra took an early lead and provided a tight contest throughout the game.  Unfortunately minor errors and frustration were the difference with the final score certainly not indicative of the closeness of the match.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Jess Barton, YMGCR – Sarah Ryan, Judds Yarrawonga – Heidi Magro.

15 and under

Mulwala 33 defeated Katandra 9.
The 15’s came out with an extra burst of energy this weekend following a week off with the interleague bye. The girls all proved they deserved a spot in the side and all contributed to the numerous intercepts taken throughout the game with their amazing defensive pressure.
The Lions kept the Katandra Kats to only 1 goal in the first quarter, and maintained a steady lead throughout the whole game.
A great win for the girls and if they keep up the great teamwork, they will be rewarded.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Abbey Matthews, YMGCR – Lauren Heffer, La Porchetta/BrewIt – Lara Langford.

13 and under

Mulwala 12 defeated by Katandra 21.
Bad luck girls- you all did exceptionally well. Everyone listened to what the coaches had to say at the quarter time breaks and applied it to the court which made the game such a good and enjoyable game to watch.  The front cuts and leading onto the ball is what the coaches have been waiting to see from the beginning of the season and you can see how much you all have improved from the first game.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Belinna Walshe, YMGCR – Hannah Riches, MFNC Dinner/BrewIt – Jess Linehan.

Mulwala 8 defeated by Katandra 14.
This week the girls had a real challenge, starting off the game well with strong leads and passes and playing together perfectly.
Lacking a bit on energy after a week full of fitness the second quarter really pushed them to work hard and keep up with the opposition’s pace.
Even when Katandra was able to grab a strong lead, Jemma and Grace did not put their hands down, applying pressure to every ball that went past them.  Paige managed to consistently keep up with her player and stood strong in defence picking up multiple intercepts and loose balls.
The girls had their first loss for the season but have identified little things which will make a big difference on the court. It’s all about learning and we have plenty of new things to work on. The girls should be super proud of their efforts this week.
Awards: Foodworks Top Lion -  Jemma Riches, YMGCR – Paige Good Travel & Cruise Yarrawonga – Jasmine Walker, MFNC Dinner/BrewIt – Grace Ewert. Well Done Awards to Myley McGlynn, Milla Fletcher, Maisee Pell and Emily Linehan.
