The long-time dust and drainage problems at Lonsdale Reserve Mulwala will be things of the past in the not too distant future.

The two issues are being addressed in an overall $650,000 project which includes a major refurbishment of Bay 13.
Fifty per cent of the internal road network, which includes a bitumen seal, has been completed. All of the road storm water has been completed.
“It has been a long time coming but we’re pleased to see good progress now being made and thank council accordingly,” Lonsdale Reserve Committee President Rod Sissons told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“Comments to date from residents have been very positive. Some 200 mature trees will be planted around the outside of the oval and on the eastern side. All will be irrigated and the big open area will be grassed.
“There will be walking tracks, a new playground and a little kids bike track – more of a training type track.”
The project is being funded by Federation Council and NSW Government. Roadway compaction and remaining seal are due for completion during September, subject to weather. Council needs at least a temperature in the ground of 15 degrees celsius.
Line marking and bollards are due for installation during October 2019. Oval storm water stage one is due in October through November 2019.
Playground equipment for the new playground structure to be installed near the netball courts has been ordered. Due to the long lead time for playground equipment it is anticipated a delivery date of August. Construction start date is scheduled for September 2019.
Consultation on any inclusions are expected from July to August 2019, with draft document release by late August and agreement/final adjustments by the committee and council September/October 2019 and adoption by November 2019.
The master plan will include next stages for development, potential funding sources and priorities for the community and council. The master plan will be used by both council and the community to apply for funding in the hope to secure funding to deliver the aspects of the master plan.
Commonly known as ‘Bay 13’, the multi-purpose recreation building is to undergo an upgrade and extension.
The successful tender, as decided at Federation Council’s monthly meeting on June 25, is Kennedy Builders Pty Ltd Mulwala for the amount of $200,345 exclusive of GST, beating four other tenders.
“We will have started by the end of July,” Andrew Kennedy of Kennedy Builder Pty Ltd told the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “The project will take about three months to complete.”
This project includes new kitchen with server, 10m x 4m tennis and cricket storeroom extension, new male/female changerooms with showers and a wheelchair access toilet.
There will be a multi-use area in the middle of the building for meetings and activities.
“The building currently is in an unstable state due to the internals being destroyed by termites,” Federation Council’s director engineering services Steve Carmichael said.
“There will be new electrical and lighting, new floor coverings, airconditioning, new plaster walls and ceilings with insulation and external brickwork will be rendered and painted.”
The total anticipated budget for the overall Lonsdale Reserve project is expected to be in the order of $650,000.
