North Melbourne's Ash Riddell will have surgery on her injured ankle and is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the AFLW regular season.
The Kangaroos midfielder suffered ligament damage to her right ankle when bumped by GWS defender Nicola Barr during Friday night's rain-affected clash at Drummoyne Oval.
"It's likely she'll need around six weeks to recover after the operation," North head of football operations Laura Kane said in a statement.
"We'll do everything we can to get her back up to full speed as quickly as possible without compromising her long-term fitness and health."
The off-the-ball incident was referred directly to the tribunal with Barr receiving a one-game suspension on Tuesday night for rough conduct.
Vision from behind the goal showed the unaware Riddell, in her debut season for the Kangaroos, being blindsided by Barr and landing awkwardly.
Riddell's recovery timeline sets up the prospect of a return for the grand final on either March 30 or 31, should the Conference A ladder leaders get there.
North have firmed as premiership favourites with impressive wins over Carlton and GWS in their two games of their inaugural AFLW campaign.
