Good fun at parkrun

By Cobram Courier

Athletes and amateurs were limbering up for a parkrun event last Saturday.

Organisers were thrilled with the turnout to Thompson’s Beach as 85 people took part in the free 5km event.

This weekly event is open to everyone, and Saturday’s event had Tocumwal’s Mild2Wild Rod and Custom club members helping out.

The Mild2Wild car club was established in 2005 and runs events during the year, including a swap meet and Show’n’Shine in July and the Rod Run biennially in March.

However this time they swapped their hot rods for runners and donned high-vis gear to direct joggers around the track for the timed event.

‘‘We’re fortunate enough to have this event in Cobram — we’re one of 330 parkrun locations in Australia,’’ parkrun event director Lyn Hewson said.

‘‘Everyone is welcome at parkrun, whether they’re athletes or beginners. Come along and check the event out.’’

Parkrun is a free, timed, 5km community event for all ages, held every Saturday at Thompson’s Beach, Cobram.

You can register at parkrun.com.au/register and bring your barcode to the event.

Any clubs that wish to participate by having their team volunteer at parkrun, are asked to phone event director Lyn Hewson on 0419 535 878.
