Two comics compiled by Bernard, together with an accompanying letter, arrived at Mulwala Library for the Mulwala Public School Grade 2 student.
As part of a roadshow throughout the Federation Council area, Bernard visited Mulwala Library on May 22 and demonstrated the art of Kamishibai to Mulwala Public School students.
This traditional art form of Japanese storytelling and its influence on modern comics was explained.
“All the children enjoyed the show but Bentley was completely captivated by Bernard’s talent for storytelling and in his abilities in caricature,” library and administration officer at Mulwala Library Chris Boyd said.
“Bentley asked many questions about Bernard’s craft, eager to learn as much as possible.
“Bernard was moved by Bentley’s eagerness and passion, and said he would send Bentley some of his work.”
Bentley was thrilled to receive the books and read out Bernard’s letter to his Nan, Deborah Stephens, teacher/librarian at Mulwala Public School Robyn Moore, and Ms Boyd.
He expressed a big thank you for Bernard and said it was exciting to receive the gifts.
“The way he draws cartoon characters is fascinating,” a proud Nan said. “He’s creative and I’m really impressed with his standard of work.”
Ms Moore added her expression of excitement for Bentley to receive the books and the inspiring letter from Bernard.
Bernard’s concluding words in his letter were ‘Keep making comics’. Bentley’s passion for making comics, which started about 12 months ago, has just received a big boost.
