The 2019 Yarrawonga Mulwala Kids Festival was another hit for kids over the school holidays with lots to see and do and fun to be had.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business Tourism Officer Tegan Rhodes said this year’s KidsFest was down on numbers to previous years but those who attended enjoyed the multitude of activities nonetheless.
“This year was not as big and bold as previous years but this was due to lack of holiday makers this winter season, with visitor numbers dropping,” Ms Rhodes said.
“We are still happy with the outcome and interaction with visitors, locals and the community.
“We were also really lucky with the weather even though the majority of activities were planned for inside.
“From all reports the kids enjoyed the themed dress up days and sand sculptures by Dennis from “sand in your eyes” at Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Information Centre, Richglen Olive Estate and Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort which were all another success with plenty of children and adults wanting to join in on the fun at the sand sculpture workshops that were held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.”
Once again star attraction Murray Cod made an appearance at a number of events, taking photos and joining in on activities with the kids.
Murray also met up and made friends with the trolls from the popular Trolls show at Club Mulwala as well as the Smurfs which was a big hit.
“Murray the Cod was a big hit with the kids popping up to each event throughout the week,” Ms Rhodes said.
“The Smurfs and Trolls shows at Club Mulwala were a great hit with kids getting involved and having a dance.
“Pirates of the Cumberoona was a sell-out event on each cruise where kids searched for treasures and enjoyed free face painting.
“The Mik Maks concert at the Yarrawonga Town Hall was enjoyed by many families travelling from near and far to see them perform their interactive show with the Kids Open Play and Family Support Expo at the community hall, a massive hit also with lots of families enjoying all the toys of the toy library.
“There were plenty more activities enjoyed through the week including; a week long movie festival at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort, jar and marinading olives and counting the farm animals at Rich Glen Olive Estate, Naidoc week activities, free kids golf at Black Bull Golf Course, basketball camps at Sacred Heart College, Junior Rangers Program held by Parks Victoria, colouring competition, trivia quiz and vegetable creations at Byramine Homestead, plenty of rides and fun at Tunzafun Mulwala, skillzone sports program at the ECA Centre, Moahs Ark puppet show at the Yarrawonga Library, cookie and cupcake decorating at Watts Café Bundalong, kids meal deals, fishing workshops and arts and craft activities put on by Gary King (men’s shed).”
With an abundance of local businesses and experiences coming onboard and providing their services, the future of the Kids Fest is looking bright.
“We hope this event will continue to grow in the coming years,” Ms Rhodes said.
“Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business, as the organisers of the Yarrawonga Mulwala Kids Festival, appreciate the generosity from Bourke Hire, Judds and Sons Civil Contractors and Quarries and the Yarrawonga Chronicle for their ongoing support to our 2019 event.
