We have been reasonably fortunate with the autumn weather so far, but it was inevitable that cloudy skies and a few millimeters of rain greeted us on Saturday.
A Grade
Katamatite 63 defeated Rennie 32.
A Grade got off to a really slow start and struggled to bridge the gap against a very accurate Katamatite. With a number of players missing, the Hoppers lacked the depth to make adjustments.
However, the effort all over the court and a willingness to keep fighting was excellent to see.
The second half was much improved and are looking forward to a strong performance next week.
Awards: Yarrawonga Hotel – Clancy Bigger, Lake Mulwala Bakery – Eliza Strawhorn, Wingate’s Sports – Maddie McInness and The Publican’s Daughter – Stacey Davis.
B Grade
Katamatite 25 defeated by Rennie 48.
B Grade had a “back to basics” game, with the wet slippery court. Leading forward was a key focus and protecting the player and the ball.
The discipline to work hard in full court “press” throughout the game and playing a steady style of netball was very impressive.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Hotel – Kayla Oughton, Terminus Hotel – Paula Mifka, Bella Pelle – Nada Nolen, and One Zach – Kristy McDougall.
C Grade
Katamatite 44 defeated by Rennie 48.
What an amazing team effort by C Grade this week, coming away with a four-goal win, after being down by 9 at half time.
The encouragement around the court was a pleasure to see.
Thanks to Erin Lawford for playing two games this week, and absolutely “smashing it”.
And to the mid court who just kept on running and managed no injuries, in very slippery conditions.
Best on ground to Erin, whose goals were “on point” and holding magnificently.
Special mention to Georgia, who took out best on ground at the RFNC Ball. No-one came close to that air guitar solo.
Awards: Yarrawonga Hotel – Erin Lawford, Terminus Hotel – Sophie Pickering and Lake Mulwala Bakery – Georgia Hope.
C Reserve
Katamatite 23 defeated by Rennie 57.
Awards: Yarrawonga Hotel – Erin Lawford, Brick Lane – Tegan Comber and Thyme for Coffee – Zoe Worland.

Katamatite 16 defeated by Rennie 37.
Conditions weren’t the best, being wet. However, the girls did adjust.
Again, the Hoppers had some girls playing in positions that they haven’t played and they did a really good job.
Mid court passes need working on, along with leading to correct space. The girls came away with a good win in the end. Well done.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Bakery – Brooke Bigger, The Athenaeum – Charli Head, Mulwala Pharmacy – Grace Stephens and Redback Waste – Charlotte Bott.
Under 13s
Katamatite 3 defeated by Rennie 26.
With wet and slippery courts, the girls started off hesitantly and there wasn’t much drive coming down court. However in the second quarter they slowly gained momentum and started to make strong leads and got the ball to the shooters with ease.
With coach Brooke confident in the score line, as well as each and every player, she made a few changes that she normally wouldn’t, but it paid off.
Defenders Heleena, Makka and Caitlin were “on fire” with hands to almost every ball, chasing any loose ball they could.
Sophia Shaw usually a GA, thrived at the opportunity to play centre, providing great leads and many turnovers all over court.
Abbey, Georgia and Violet were all also spectacular, playing together as a team and backing each other up. Shooters Laynee and Sienna worked amazingly in the ring, hardly missing a goal.
Fantastic game girls keep up the good work.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Bakery – Sienna Mullarvey, Judd’s Mensland Visor – Laynee Rhodes, Yarrawonga Fish’n’Chips – Caitlin Van Maanen and McDonald’s – Abbey Shoppee.
Under 11s
In the wet conditions, the Rennie Hopperettes worked hard over the six quarters.
The shooting style was “on point” for all the girls who played that position.
Setting up in position is a key focus for the girls. Great to see so many smiling faces on Saturday.
Awards: RRR Canteen Voucher – Hayley Bennett, Courtyard Cafe – Demi Rhodes and McDonald’s – Holly Hadley.
The highlight of the Rennie Football Netball Club calendar is the Annual Ball.
With over 150 guests enjoying the music of “Me and the Girl” at Club Mulwala on Saturday night, the evening was a great opportunity to dress up for the occasion and catch up with friends old and new.
Special thanks must go to Lisa Starr and her small committee including Jordynn Ednie and Jess Westwood, who coordinated the evening, to ensure a fabulous night was had by all.
