Under 14 Rams

The Under 14 Rams took on the Rovers Blue side on a magnificent looking Stan Hargreaves oval.

Winning the toss the Rams decided to bat in the first one day fixture of the season.

Openers Harvey Thomson and Darby Mullins looked good until Harvey was bowled by a good delivery and Darby retired not out on 2.

Ben Kennedy, Jeremy Bramich, Jobe Fraser and Jett Peters all kept the scoreboard ticking over in solid batting efforts.

All four looked good with Ben 30, Jeremy 22, Jobe 19 and Jett 15 all retired not out.

With the overs limited to 21 aside batting time was short and thanks must go to Ollie Cope 4no, Maeve Connell 1no, Maya Hargreaves 2no, and Xavier Martin 4no who all retired not out to give their teammates a bat.

A good batting effort getting the Rams to 2/120 at 21 overs.

Taking to the field the young Rams were on fire early with openers Xavier Martin 1 wicket and Maeve Connell 2 wickets.

Harvey Thomson 1 wicket and Ollie Cope 1 wicket bowled well in the middle overs.

Ben Kennedy got the last wicket of the day as well as Jeremy, Darby, Jett and Jobe all bowling great line and length.

The Rams dismissing the Rovers for 84 runs and claiming a solid win.

Under 14 Bulls

After the first six weeks on the road the Bulls played their first home game for the season but it wasn’t a happy homecoming.

Despite putting a competitive score on the board after being asked to bat first the opposition in return obliterated the Bulls bowling smashing the ball to all parts of the oval.

With the loss of two early wickets Cam Ford and Lachie Phillips looked to resurrect the Bulls innings.

Cam made his way to a defiant 6 laying the foundations for a sprint finish.

Lachie Phillips continued his dominant form with the bat making 29 which included 5 boundaries.

Not to be outdone Darcy Hicks innings also included 5 boundaries on his way to a superb 23.

Tyler Norman’s cameo of 14 of the last few overs will surely boost his confidence going into the last 2 games before Christmas.

At 2/89 the Bulls at the change of innings were relatively confident of defending the score.

From the start of the Rovers innings it was carnage though with the openers pouncing on anything loose.

Going at 10 runs per overs the Bulls tried to wind back with wickets to TJ Docking and Norman but the damage had been done.

The Bulls second half was more encouraging especially in the field with all catches taken and a spectacular direct hit run out from Docking.

Jackson Purtell proved that he is more than handy with the ball while Marcus Van Maanen produced his best spell of the season.

He combined with Hicks to put some respectability in the scoreboard with the Rovers closing their innings 6 wickets down for 143.

Awards with thanks to great sponsors: Crusty Loaf Bakery – Marcus Van Maanen.

Yarrawonga Fish n Chips – Tyler Norman.

The Bulls will have another tough assignment this week when they take on the ladder leaders at Mulwala.

Under 14 Lakers

The Under 14 Lakers took on Ovens Valley United at Tarrawingee on Saturday.

After agreeing to bowl first the Lakers kept the opposing opening batsman on their toes for the first couple of overs, but were unable to make a breakthrough.

Both the Ovens Valley openers batted extremely well and punished anything short, before they retired. It was the introduction of spin bowling that produced the first wicket. Ovens Valley got going again scoring at will with some very creative shots.

Rudi Vodusek was brought into the attack and bowled a very tight line which produced mistakes by two batsman to be the best bowler for the day returning with 2 for 20 from 3 overs. He was well supported by Will Turnell who had the figures of 1 for 0 from 2 overs.

At the end of 21 overs Ovens Valley United managed to make 4 for 111. On the positive side the extras were very low, bowling 1 wide and 2 no balls, which is a vast turnaround from the game before.

The run chase began very well with both openers Tom Lovell (9no) and Dillon Kirchen (11no) retiring. The Lakers then proceeded to lose wickets at regular intervals and weren’t able to get a partnership going. They did however manage to bat their 21 overs for a total of 6 for 68.

Awards this week went to Rudi Vodsuek (Yarrawonga Fish & Chips) and Dillon Kirchen (Crusty Loaf Bakery).

Under 12s

On Saturday morning the Under 12 boys played host to top of the ladder Greta.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl the boys came up against a very strong batting line up with the Greta youngsters making a very good score of 3/122.

The boys bowled very well with wickets going to Xavier Mitchell, Lucas Eales and Pacey Haebich after a great catch taken by Nate Kreeck.

The boys then came out to bat and applied themselves very well against some quick bowling.

The Rams finished 5/74 with Pacey Haebich top scoring with 21 not out.

Other boys that batted well were Xavier Mitchell and Jace Gove who both retired.

Next week the Under 12s have Rutherglen at Rutherglen on Friday night at 5pm.
