A Grade’s dominant first half

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

The Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club A Grade have completely dominated Ovens Valley in the final WDCA round before the Christmas/ New Year break.

After posting 120 runs last week, the Lakers courtesy of James Irvine had Ovens Valley reeling at 7 for 27 at the conclusion of day one action.

Day two saw Ovens Valley praying for further rain; however such is the quality of the Stan Hargreaves Oval surface that play began at the scheduled time.

Angus McMillan opened the bowling and removed Michael Newton for 9 with the score at 8 for 29.

Irvine continued his fiery spell to have Neary back in the pavilion.

The final wicket saw Wyatt retire hurt and the Ovens Valley team all out for just 41.

With plenty of overs left in the day, Yarrawonga Mulwala batted out the day with Josh Lawrence making 20, Matt Casey 22 not out and Angus McMillan a cracking 27 runs.

The Lakers reached 3 for 87 at the close called by the Lakers.

James Irvine’s man of the match performance saw him finish the game with 24 runs not out in the first innings and take 7 for 10 off 12 overs.

A break sees the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club in second position on the ladder with a 15-point margin to third position and looking forward to a strong second half of the season in 2019.
