The Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club A Grade team have ground out a 28-run victory against Benalla at the Gardens Oval in Benalla.

Having amassed 9 for 308 last week, the Lakers returned with a second position to defend and on a batsman’s paradise.

The Lakers were superb with their bowling being miserly and building pressure.

Spin duo Brock McCabe 0 for 48 from 15 overs and Matt Casey 0 for 35 from 9 overs bowled important overs early on to enable pressure to build on the batsman.

While pacemen in James Irvine 3 for 42 from 11, Will Sharp 2 for 43 from 10, Corey McIntosh 2 for 50 from 14, Angus McMillan 0 for 23 from 8 and Brendan Lewis 1 for 31 from 8; all played their roles.

At the conclusion of play, the Lakers had restricted Benalla to 9 for 280 and a grinding victory by 28 runs which secured a top 2 position on the ladder and a home final in three weeks’ time.

The Lakers take on Wangaratta Magpies in the final game of the home and away season at Stan Hargreaves Oval in Yarrawonga over the next two Saturdays.
