A number of riders met in Yarrawonga and rode onto Wangaratta, where the group headed off to Ovens with 180 plus other riders to meet up with the Albury/Wodonga riders numbering in excess of 220 to eventually arrive in Wodonga 400 plus strong.
Yarrawonga participant and Black Dog Ride volunteer Damian Appleton said it was a great day to raise awareness for an issue that can be so life changing.
“It was an incredible ride, great messages regarding depression and suicide prevention awareness were spread with one lady in particular speaking about how intervention by others halted a suicide attempt on her part,” Mr Appleton said.
“It was a very sobering recollection of her experience but that is exactly the message we are trying to get out – help is out there, and no-one should be left alone to have the black dog drag them down.”
Black Dog Ride (BDR) as a health promotion charity, conduct awareness campaigns wherein any funds raised during the awareness activities, such as the rides go into a pool where local (as the preference) and national organisations that undertake activities around the mental wellbeing fields can apply for funding.
The organisation itself does not provide services but actively seeks ‘to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention.
