It was a scheduled four-round bout with three-minute rounds at Marks Point Newcastle with 700 boxing fans watching on. But the 18-year-old from Yarrawonga didn’t require four rounds.
“It was a ferocious performance,” proud coach Matt (Camel) Kennedy told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“Jack’s lead-up to the fight was spot-on, he did everything right. He was on a six-week training camp based at Focus Gym at the golf club resort and dropped 7kg for this fight.”
Jack fought at 62.2kg and his opponent at 62.8 in the 63.5kg weight division. “For Jack’s first professional fight, he was rearing to go,” Kennedy said.
The teenager felt good before his fight and 15 people from Yarrawonga Mulwala made the 750kms trip to Newcastle to cheer on their talented youngster.
Coach and competitor from Murray River Boxing Gym Mulwala very much appreciate the local support, starting with Focus Gym’s Paul Aitken and PE teacher Lee James, as well as sponsors including major sponsor Extreme Cleaning and mates of Jack’s.
Jack, who began amateur boxing at age 13-years, will have his next fight on Friday, June 21 against Daniel Carr of Sydney who has not won any of his four professional fights to date.
“But he’s a tough boy,” Kennedy warned.
