The Jerilderie locals jumped out of the blocks with the first 3 goals as Rennie took 20 minutes to settle.

It was a fierce tackling term by both teams with Smith and Bigger leading the way for Rennie.

A great rundown and goal by Ferguson and a late goal to Fountain saw the Hoppers 3 points down.

Term 2 was again high pressure with the Hopper half backs of Stevenson and McCallum holding firm as Willett and Smith were able to hit the scoreboard as Rennie grabbed a 2-point advantage.

Both teams were able to kick 4 goals in the third term as the game began to open up.

Again it was the influence of Bigger and Smith whose clearance work enabled Sudholz to create at half forward as Ednie’s stamp on the match increased.

A 6-point lead was extended as the Hoppers were able to kick 4 goals to 1 in a fiery last quarter.

Special note to Fletcher Donovan in his second senior game who looked really comfortable late in the match at the level.

This was a game where the inside 50 count was even throughout, but the Hoppers just had more options forward in the end.

Strawhorn kicked 4 and Willett 3 for the Hoppers.  Best were Smith and Fountain.

Rennie stay in fifth position.

Reserves

The twos made it 8 in a row with a 52-point victory. Their first half was excellent, second half indifferent as they plodded out the match.

The work of Dish in the clinches was outstanding well supported by Harris off half back.

Up forward Hornie was the catalyst setting up Zanker who kicked another 7 to take his tally to 41.

The coaches Abbott and Costello otherwise known as Dykes and Phibbs belied their age with strong performances.

Good win but need to play 4 solid quarters.

They were again very even with a functional forward line allowing a spread of goalkickers with Axel snagging 9, Callum D and Kennedy 3 each and Sonny O’B and Dommy Mac 2 being multiple goalkickers.

As always the running of Zac Forge and Joey Lee-Conway was brilliant and the way that the Hoppers are looking and using each other is a credit to coach Stephens.
