The younger brother of slain standover figure Walid Ahmad will spend almost two months in custody after being arrested as he entered the country over a gangland shooting death in Sydney's southwest last year.
Mahmoud Ahmad, 34, was picked up by NSW homicide squad detectives on Monday night at Sydney's international airport after arriving on a flight from the Middle East.
His matter was mentioned briefly in Waverley Local Court on Tuesday morning, but Ahmad did not appear.
Ahmad's lawyer, Michael Coroneos, said his team was seeking orders for a brief of evidence "as soon as practicable".
He made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
Ahmad was arrested in relation to the murder of Safwan Charbaji, 32, who was fatally wounded outside a Condell Park smash repair business last April.
