Emergency services were called to Mullers Rd about 3.20pm following reports a car had crashed into a tree and caught fire.
The driver of the car was unable to be saved.
He has since been identified as a 38-year-old man from Woodend.
A community message was issued by VicEmergency at 3.30pm, saying a grassfire on Mullers Rd was travelling in a westerly direction.
Half an hour later a further message advised the fire was under control and firefighters would remain at the scene for some time.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.
Theft from motor vehicle
Two vehicles parked in a driveway of a home in Sutherland St, Broadford, were broken into overnight on January 22.
Both vehicles’ glove box and centre console were rummaged through and a few small items were taken.
Letterbox damaged
A letterbox in Chisolm Cres, Seymour, was damaged overnight on January 22.
The damage was done when a firecracker or similar was put in the letterbox.
Business, club burgled
A total of $6000 worth of electrical equipment was stolen from a Seymour business overnight on January 20.
Several people allegedly gained entry to the Elizabeth St business by cutting the padlock to the front gate. It is believed they drove a vehicle to the front of the workshop and cut a different padlock to a cage.
The stolen equipment includes grinders and drills.
Between January 10 and January 17, several people gained access to the Seymour Cricket Club rooms in Pollard St, Seymour, by allegedly jemmying open a door.
About $1500 worth of alcohol was stolen from the fridge.
Bike taken
A bike was stolen from a front yard in Kitchener Cres, Seymour, on January 17.
The gold-coloured men’s Giant XTC mountain bike was taken between 7.45am and 8.30am.
It was worth $4200.
