The community hub will be built on the area where the current storage shed and portable are located.
The new library will operate the space behind the town hall where the community hall currently stands back to Hume St encompassing the land where the run-down kindergarten is located.
A priority for this proposed development is for both spaces – library and community hub – to be used both independently and simultaneously.
The community hub, would be built as part of stage one with the majority of the library built as part of stage two.
At the library reference group meeting held in January, several members of an action group opposing the demolition of the community hall expressed concerns around the village green highlighting that plans could see much of the area replaced by the new building.
Other concerns raised by several members were the measurements for the new community hub, fire exits and the belief that facilities are being ‘squashed.’
A representative of the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation (GVRL) said the library group were very happy with the concept and are looking forward to working with council and the consultants to develop the plans further.
The GVRL representative also said the new library to be located within the town hall precinct will be a significantly larger library than the pre-existing one, an entry facing Belmore Street will be very beneficial and the plans look to have a prominent facade.
It was highlighted at the meeting that a major priority for council was to provide all abilities access to the entire precinct.
Both the library reference group and steering committee will meet this week before the wider community are given the opportunity to provide feedback.
