Salini Logoga and Viena Fuold, delegates of Tuvalu National Women Council organisation stayed with Faye and Robert Glover from March 22 to April 3, prior to travelling to Melbourne to attend the Associated Country Women of the World Conference from April 4 -10.
The request was, how to sew men’s trousers and men’s shirts.
Faye tutored the ladies to fulfil this request.
Viena completed a detailed shirt and tailored men’s trousers, learning numerous construction techniques and various functions of the sewing machine to assist her in the future.
Salini completed a beautiful lady’s shirt, men’s cargo pants but with the feature at centre back of waist band to enable take-in or let out as well as boxer shorts and a stretch T- shirt for the first time.
Plus various samples of relevant processes for reference. Salini and Viena work in a local business making school uniforms and they cut free-hand.
Tuvalu has electricity and they use electric sewing machines.
Branch members supplied lunches daily and this was an opportunity to say “Talofa” - Hello.
Avid Pinterest fan, Kathy Hunter gave guidance on accessing Pinterest, which opened up another world of information especially for Salini who by that evening said “I have seen many things on Pinterest.”
Anne Peters hosted the ladies for an over-night stay in town and visited some shops in Yarrawonga.
They did also enjoy staying on the farm with the animals, motor bike (they ride motorbikes at home) and the space.
Whilst in Yarrawonga the ladies were made very welcome by all they met during their stay. CWA members, St Cuthberts congregation, fellow South Pacific Islander Helen Wright at the Tourist information Centre and Lions “Turban Angels” project leader Debbie Van Corler warmly welcomed Viena and Salini to the work room and explained the processes involved in making the Cancer Turbans and accessories and running the work room.
The ladies enjoyed a chat with the Turban volunteers.
Yarrawonga/Border CWA went to lunch at Byramine Homestead with sister Branch Kyabram and invited Salini and Viena to join in.
This was a bonus for the CWA members because only Jennie Hammon, Gwen Younger and Faye Glover were going on to ACWW 29th Triennial World Conference, Melbourne Australia.
Several representatives from Moira Group of CWA Vic attended the Conference also.
