Fitness gurus Bernadette Skinner and Isabelle Warren, along with Isabelle’s daughter Elli, had no trouble walking 80kms last month in their fundraising venture of $10,500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

The trio walked 80kms along the 223km Larapinta Trail east of Alice Springs, starting on June 18 and finishing the five-day walk on June 22.
They were among a group of 16 participants throughout Australia organised by Inspired Adventures Sydney.
‘Detta’, ‘Iss’ and her recently turned 21-year-old daughter Elli were well satisfied with their adventure. “We are so proud to have raised $10,500 for such a worthwhile cause,” Detta told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“It was a rewarding trip with wonderful sites along the way including Mount Sonder and Wallaby’s Gap, and meeting such lovely people.
“The temperature was absolutely perfect for walking, getting to a maximum of 23 degrees. Nights were chilly but we always had wonderful hospitality.”
Meeting other like-minded people who fundraise for The National Breast Cancer Foundation puts everything into perspective according to Iss.
“By the end of the walk you’ve just learnt how affected some people have become whether directly or indirectly with breast cancer,” Iss, who is sporting a big black toe, said. “We wanted to do our bit for the Breast Cancer Foundation. “You meet very interesting people.”
One participant was a florist who painted as a hobby. After some convincing by the Yarrawonga ladies, she did a wonderful watercolour painting of Mount Sonder which raised $800 for the Breast Cancer Foundation at a silent auction.
Our three local participants were described as “inspirational people” by The National Breast Cancer Foundation digital marketing manager Hannah Martin.
“This is the second track Bernadette and Isabelle have been on, the first being in China in 2016,” Hannah told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“Their passion and fundraising is amazing. It’s helping us to get one step closer to our mission of zero deaths from breast cancer from 2030.”
After the charity fundraiser achievement, Detta issued some advice to Iss: ‘Check your footwear’; the Belle’s Café proprietor put her walking footwear through a washing machine and subsequently had to cut out a hole for her big toe to fit through!
The adventuring trio expresses a big thank you for the local community support backing their fundraising efforts.
“We don’t intend stopping – we’re going to do it all again,” Detta said. “In two years’ time, it might be Japan.” After all, it was the Great Wall of China in 2016 which realized $9,000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
