In a game dominated by strength and athleticism, the 6th-placed A graders took on the 5th-placed Saints in what was always going to be a tough match.
The first half lived up to its expectation, with the lead see-sawing between the teams and neither exerting true dominance on the game, despite a 3-goal lead to the Pigeons at half time.
A few effective changes were then made which saw the ever-reliable Bec Carlyle thrust from GD to GA, creating goaling opportunities and another fruitful partnership with new recruit Elle Brookes.
Best on court young gun Tilly Kennedy shifted to goal defence for the second half and her impressive drive and energy combined well with Annalise Grinter to shut down the Saint’s avenues to goal.
Co-coach Laura Irvine was again outstanding in the centre throughout the match and the last quarter saw the Pigeons extend their lead by a further 12 goals for an impressive win.
Best: Tilly Kennedy and Laura Irvine.

The girls worked well together bringing the ball down the court and converting their opportunities into goals on the board.
At quarter time the Pigeons girls were two goals ahead and it was looking good.
In the second quarter the Saints staged a fightback and despite a best on court performance from defender Macey Hicks, the Saints were able to take the lead and maintain it for the remainder of the game.
Despite the mounting pressure, the girls can be encouraged that they didn’t give up and were able to continue to fight back throughout the game.
Eliana Hicks also had a great game, converting 10 goals from 13 attempts at 77% and there is no doubt that these talented combinations are coming together and a win is just around the corner.
