B Grade hosted ladder leaders Rutherglen on Saturday at Mulwala. Play was delayed by 25 minutes due to rain but other than winning the toss that was where the luck ran out for the B grade side.
Credit to Rutherglen for their bowling as they were accurate and consistent in their approach, which meant they were hard to score runs from.
This showed with the whole team only managing 60 runs in total from 32.2 overs, with only Zac Fraser (19 runs) getting to double figures in a tough day with the bat for the Lakers.
The Lakers turn with the ball started well with Reece Norman trapping the opening batsman in front with the third ball of the innings.
But once again the experience of the Rutherglen line up came to the fore as they consolidated and managed to pass the Lakers score one wicket down.
To the credit of the young Lakers side they persisted and kept at it for the whole day and eventually broke through and finished the day with 7 Rutherglen wickets.
Reece Norman again the best of the bowlers with 3/23 off 7 overs with Tom Hicks, Sam Willett, Mitch Collins Bye and Josh McCabe all taking one wicket a piece, McCabe taking his wicket with the last ball of the day…clean bowled.
Rutherglen finishing on 7/119.
Next match sees the B grade having the bye and two weeks off before the last round against Milawa at Milawa.
