In the Under 18 final squad, Nick Irvine from Tungamah has made the list for the second consecutive season after a strong preseason campaign. Irvine is the son of Smoko Shed owners Rob and Felicity Irvine.
Cameron Wild had made the list after transferring from the Northern Knights for the 2019 season. Wild is based in Shepparton and is the son of 2006 YFNC Premiership Captain Jason Wild and Rachel Slattery who won the Toni Wilson Medal as the O&M A Grade Best and Fairest in 2004. Wild played several games for the Northern Knights in 2018.
The Under 16 squad, as reported in the Yarrawonga Chronicle last week, featured Zac Bench, Ned Pendergast, Jett Smith and Will Wheaton who make up a strong part of the 26 man squad.
Coach Justin McMahon said; “Banch has been an extremely competitive player who has shown steady improvement after recovering from pre-Xmas injuries”.
“He has been working on developing his game as a small forward and defender whilst spending some time through the midfield as well.
“Will Wheaton has made strong improvements to his game throughout the program. Has shown his versatility and willingness to learn. He will be used in a variety of roles through back, forward and midfield.
“Ned Pendergast reads the game very well and is an excellent kick. We are working with Ned to play higher up the ground as a forward and also through the midfield.
“Smith has some exciting attributes. He is recovering from significant illness that has interrupted his preseason but is working his way to full fitness. He will be an important player through the midfield,” McMahon said.
